Leticia Huerta earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at San Antonio in1985 and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting in 1991 at Southern Methodist University, Dallas. Huerta has exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally. Her work has been collected by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Mexic-Arte Museum, Austin; San Antonio Museum of Art; Meadows Museum, Dallas; and the Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi. Huerta has attended residencies at the McColl Center for the Arts in Charlotte, North Carolina, Coronado Studio in Austin, Texas, Self Help Graphics in Los Angeles.
Huerta has worked on numerous public art projects, most of them involving the community, design teams and fabricators. Projects completed include transit stations in Dallas for the Dallas Area Transit System, the Charlotte Area Transit System and Phoenix Metro. In addition to transit projects, Huerta has completed streetscape and park projects. Her studio work is in mixed media combining text and images that allude to personal reflection as well as universal themes. She is a native San Antonian, her family dates back several generations in San Antonio and Brownsville. Huerta maintains a studio and home outside of San Antonio.

I am a San Antonio area artist that works on large scale public art projects as well as small intimate pieces. I have exhibited locally, regionally and internationally.
The work I have been engaged in lately explores various ideas, mostly about personal conflicts that find their way into my work. I work out fears, joy, love and countless other emotions on a two-dimensional surface. On a formal level, I work out the way in which various images work with each other or don’t. I use text to hint at what the work is about, but I also mean it to inspire contemplation and introducing the viewer’s experiences into the reading of the piece. The materials lately have become simpler, paper, pencil, glue, fabric, thread, etc. My aim is not to shout out an idea but to quietly whisper it to whoever wants to listen.
